-AIA SILICON VALLEY HONORS MODULUS with MULTIPLE DESIGN AWARDS -

The American Institute of Architects Silicon Valley Chapter honored MODULUS with multiple Design Awards at last week’s Ceremony. The jurors spoke at length in regards to the beautifully dynamic use of light, space, and connectivity that made the entries some of the night’s most uniquely recognized projects.

Interior Architecture Design Award - “Corsair”

The ‘Third Space’ is real. It existed before the pandemic, exploded in growth during the pandemic, and has quickly become the harbinger for the creation of new ideas and worlds. At the core of the Third Space transformative experience is CORSAIR, where your eyes, ears, and persona converge. CORSAIR's commitment to enhancing user and lifestyle experiences behind a screen is evident in their product design and the space they occupy demanded a metamorphosis to mirror the dynamism of their products.

The essence of the space lies in the interplay of shape, materiality, & light, meticulously crafted to evoke dynamic experiences. A simple yet striking palette of blacks, whites, and natural tones, coupled with fluid shapes transitioning seamlessly, embodies their identity. Customized and integrated lighting heightens the spatial experience, echoing the essence of CORSAIR's products.

The result is a multi-faceted space, offering diverse functional opportunities while cultivating an atmosphere and experience unparalleled in other environments. It serves as a breeding ground for creativity and excitement, embodying CORSAIR's culture and the spirit of its people.

This workplace isn't just a physical space; it's a powerful statement, an assertion against solely working from home a testament to the magnetic pull of a space designed to inspire and create.

We are honored to have received two Design Awards in a year with the most recorded entries to the competition, alongside so many other talented industry professionals. Having the opportunity to do what we love for the benefit of all our clients and community is reward enough; being recognized by our peers for distinguished architectural work in Silicon Valley is beyond exciting.

We congratulate everyone involved in making these projects a huge success.

Small Project / Big Impact Design Award - “modOffice / Shadow Tubes”

The poetry created from the dancing and dappling of filtered and obstructed light throughout the day brings a peacefulness and calmness beyond compare. Only possible by the transparent admission of natural light, it creates an unequalled connection to the surrounding environment, the sun, the clouds and the sky. In conceptualizing the development of our small 2,000 square foot office, it would be essential for the space to become a theater for light and shadow, as a daily reminder of the passion and inspiration of that which we aim to create.

Many shapes and materials were investigated, and ultimately a softly pulled and tapering tube was decided upon to create the myriad of shadows. Adding another layer – allowing a section of “shadow tubes” to be able to change height would not only add additional opportunity for changing the shadow, but also allow the design groups to be screened during meetings or collaboration.

728 of the 2,215 internally 3D printed shadow tubes made from engineering grade translucent filament are connected to motors, on 3D printed apparatus with motor, switch, and control boards wirelessly tied together via IoT for manipulation of the ceiling elements.

A simple beautiful element bringing constantly changing depth and life to the space, but also physically effecting how the space can be used and function. Not just art or sculpture, but architecture effecting space.
